Billie Eilish is nominated for six Grammy Awards this year, with "What Was I Made For?" up for Song of the Year; Dua Lipa is nominated for two Grammy Awards with "Dance The Night" up for Song of the Year; and Olivia Rodrigo is nominated for six Grammy awards with "vampire" up for Song of the Year. The three singers have won a combined 14 Grammys before their latest nominations.
This year's top Grammy nominees include SZA, who earned the most nods in nine categories, followed by Phoebe Bridgers, Serban Ghenea, and Victoria Monét, who earned seven nominations each. Jack Antonoff, Jon Batiste, boygenius, Brandy Clark, Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, and Taylor Swift all earned six nominations.
Mitchell, 80, is up for her 10th Grammy this year for her live album, "Joni Mitchell at Newport," which is nominated for Best Folk Album. She received a lifetime achievement award from the Recording Academy in 2002.
List of confirmed Grammy performers for 2024
Performers appearing at the 2024 Grammys include:
Burna Boy
Luke Combs
Billie Eilish
Billy Joel
Dua Lipa
Joni Mitchell
Olivia Rodrigo
Travis Scott
SZA
U2
U2 will be performing from The Sphere in Las Vegas, the groundbreaking high-tech venue where the band began a residency in September.
The Recording Academy says additional performers will be announced in the lead-up to Sunday's show.
The list of presenters at the Grammys includes Christina Aguilera, Samara Joy, Lenny Kravitz, Maluma, Lionel Richie, Mark Ronson, Meryl Streep, Taylor Tomlinson and Oprah Winfrey.
Is Taylor Swift performing at the 2024 Grammy Awards show?
Taylor Swift could have a very big night at the Grammys, with six nominations including Album of the Year for "Midnights." If she clinches that category it would be her fourth career win for Album of the Year, the most for any artist. She's also making headlines for her hugely successful Eras Tour and her romance with the Kansas Chiefs' Travis Kelce.
But will she perform at the Grammys? While a surprise can't be completely ruled out, Taylor Swift has not been announced as a performer.
Is Beyoncé performing at the 2024 Grammy Awards show?
Fans have also been speculating about the possibility of a Beyoncé performance — but Queen Bey has not been announced as a performer in this year's Grammys show.
How to watch the Grammy performances
You can watch the Grammy performances and all the big winners being announced as the Grammy Awards will return to Los Angeles' Arena on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, with the show airing live on the CBS Television Network and streaming on Paramount+ beginning at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.
That follows special live coverage of the Grammys red carpet you can stream on CBS Los Angeles from 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. ET / 3:30 p.m.-5 p.m. PT. Join Suzanne Marques, KCAL entertainment reporter and host of "The Lot", for Live From the Red Carpet: The GRAMMYs, talking with nominees, presenters and personalities as they make their way into the show. KCAL's Lesley Marin will be joined by fashion stylist Jennifer Rodriguez to break down red carpet looks and music writer Suzy Exposito to offer insight into nominees and what to expect.
Joni Mitchell will make her Grammy performance debut at the 2024 Grammy Awards, set for Sunday (Feb. 4) at Arena in Los Angeles. It’s surprising that Mitchell has never performed on Music’s Biggest Night because she has been a Grammy fixture for decades. She won her first of nine competitive Grammys in 1970. In addition, she received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy in 2002.
Mitchell is the ninth performer to be announced for this year’s telecast. These performers range in age from three in their 20s (Olivia Rodrigo, 20; Billie Eilish, 22; and Dua Lipa, 28) to three who are 60+ – the four members of U2, who are in their early 60s; Billy Joel, 74; and Mitchell, 80). Also booked for the show are Burna Boy and Travis Scott, both 32, and Luke Combs, 33.
Mitchell is the fourth of these performers who is a past album of the year winner, following Joel, U2 and Eilish. But you may be surprised to learn what album Mitchell won for. It wasn’t her 1971 classic Blue (which, surprisingly, wasn’t nominated in any categories), or her 1974 creative and commercial hit Court and Spark (which was nominated for album of the year). It was Herbie Hancock’s jazz tribute to her, River: The Joni Letters. She won as a featured artist on that album.
The Recording Academy and the Black Music Collective will present Mariah Carey and Lenny Kravitz with 2024’s Global Impact Awards, according to Billboard. Carey and Kravitz will accept the trophies on Thursday, February 1, at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles.
The Global Impact Award is a CEO Merit Award that recognizes Black music creators whose “dedication to the art form has greatly influenced the industry,” the Recording Academy stated in a press release. Honorees are recognized for their “inspirational legacy of service and celebrated for the myriad ways recipients’ leadership and passion has empowered others to embrace authenticity and contribute to positive change.”
Mariah Carey is not nominated at the 2024 Grammy Awards, but Terry Hunter got a nod in Best Remixed Recording for his remix of the singer’s “Workin’ Hard.” Kravitz will be at the Grammys on Sunday as one of the show’s many presenters.
The ceremony, which takes place in Los Angeles on Sunday, is notorious for scoring own goals, often rewarding middle-of-the-road heritage acts over cutting-edge, contemporary pop.
But this year's nominees are straight-down-the-line populist picks, with R&B star SZA leading the field on nine.
There will also be performances from big names ranging from Dua Lipa and Billie Eilish to Joni Mitchell and U2.
Comedian Trevor Noah will host for the fourth year running, overseeing a staggering 94 categories, from best contemporary Christian album to best audiobook, where Michelle Obama will square off against Meryl Streep.
Elsewhere, Phoebe Bridgers' indie-rock supergroup Boygenius, and pop star Victoria Monét have seven nominations each.
Chart stars Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Miley Cyrus, Lana Del Rey and Ice Spice also have multiple nominations in a female-led field.
First of all, brew a strong pot of coffee.
More than 80 awards will be handed out in what's called the "premiere ceremony" at 20:30 GMT on Sunday (12:30 in Los Angeles).
It's often worth tuning in. The winners in the more obscure categories are less polished and more excited about winning, and the performances are looser and, dare I say it, more musical than the Hollywood-scale set pieces you'll see later.
You can watch the whole thing on the Recording Academy's YouTube channel and on
The main show, which will start at 01:00 Monday GMT, will be broadcast live in the US on CBS and streamed on Paramount Plus. Speeches and select performances are usually uploaded to YouTube the following day.
If Swift wins album of the year for Midnights, she will become the first ever artist to lift the prestigious trophy four times.
At the moment, she's tied with Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder and Frank Sinatra, who each have three wins.
But the Grammys have typically been less interested in Swift's pop records than her forays into country and folk.
Record of the year
Jon Batiste – Worship
Boygenius – Not Strong Enough
Miley Cyrus – Flowers
Billie Eilish – What Was I Made For?
Victoria Monét – On My Mama
Olivia Rodrigo – Vampire
Taylor Swift – Anti-Hero
SZA – Kill Bill
As convincingly argued by the UK government’s women and equalities committee this week, the music industry remains unequal – but women seem to be finally getting their dues at awards ceremonies at least. Over half the nominations at this year’s Brit awards feature women, and the top categories at the Grammys go even further. Only one male artist is up for the top prize of record of the year ( Olivia Rodrigo’s Vampire has a very strong case, building as it does from bruised piano ballad to bruising uptempo showstopper, the energy and vocal prowess of an entire Broadway musical packed into three and a half minutes. But Taylor Swift is now a pop cultural force to eclipse all others, and you could easily imagine her sweeping the board this EM2SPORTS.COMs
